11/06/10 – Small Rant + Kettlebells

It’s Friday morning, 11/05 @ 8:50am.  I’m sitting here at the computer wondering what to write about today and all of a sudden I come across this little beauty (via) of an article, or should I say big beauty.  It baffles me that the obesity rate keeps climbing, but then I realize we are a country built on instant gratification and convenience so when it comes time to “workout” people are going out to buy shape ups and when it is time for breakfast on the go they  buy pancake bites.  Seriously?  I’m not going to get on my high horse and pretend like I haven’t enjoyed multiple slices of Joe’s Pizza @ 3am after several of these, but I’m not obese, ya heard?  I am conscious of my nutrition during the week which is why we are currently doing the Primal challenge. I’ve seen great results from eating a high fat, high protein, low carb diet.  It’s become second nature to eat this way, which is how a “diet” should be.  Remember, although this challenge only lasts 30-days, it is supposed to act as an impetus for a more permanent lifestyle change.  Whether you choose to eat Primal in December and beyond is up to you, but I think many of you will be convinced once you see your results.  By the way, with the obesity rate approaching half of US adults, that means we all know someone who is unhealthy and needs a push.  If you are coming to CrossFit 908 and loving it, shouldn’t those people be coming to?  So, this ended up being slightly sales pitchy, my bad.  Timmy’s gotta eat too, no pun intended.  Anyway, at least I’m not this guy trying to sell you the gazelle.  There is no “get fit quick” pill or magic potion.  You didn’t gain 50lbs overnight, so you aren’t going to lose it overnight, but I portend that anyone can drastically improve their health in 3-months following a paleo/primal diet and working out 3-4 hours per week.  Post your thoughts to the comments section.

  1. Impetus…what are you Aristotle? Captain tying knots. By Aristotle I’m referring to the impetus theory which was created to fit the motion of projectiles to the current paradigm that something could only move if it was being pushed. . . Like a wallball.

I have to agree Tim. I received an email from a friend that was inquiring about the primal diet and in that email this friend had stated that the biggest loser …. yes that dumb show….. said that a low fat high Carb diet was better for losing weight. Of course I started cracking up but then I was panic stricken as I thought, “do people really trust money driven, misguided, and utterly manipulated media over actual SCIENCE!?!?!”

Its sad to think that reality TV shows can control a persons thoughts to that degree

  2. OK, so first Tim uses “ya heard” and portend in the same paragraph, and then Pat references Aristotle and Captain Tying Knots – awesome.

By the way, I’ve been eating Primal since September and been at 80% compliant and above. While I haven’t lost much weight in total pounds, I have dropped a belt loop and had students comment on how much weight I lost. All this while enjoying every single meal, also awesome.
