07/22/11 – Nutrition Challenge Day # 26 – One Week Left

A call to arms from our very own Courtney.  I know Jimmy R. is in for this!

Polar Bear Plunge in support of the Special Olympics of New Jersey

Registration has just opened for the February 25th Polar Bear Plunge in support of the Special Olympics of NJ in Seaside Heights and I’m reaching out to all 908 members in hopes of forming a team. While it’s not your typical CF activity, it does involve drinking and requires folks have a screw or two loose. Something I’m thinking we all share in common.

The event raises hundreds of thousands of dollars EACH year that goes directly to providing free year-round training and competition in 24 Olympic-type sports to more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The most rewarding part of the plunge is meeting some of these amazing athletes and hearing how impactful the Special Olympics is on their lives. For me that’s the main reason I’ve made this plunge for 4 years in a row.

And besides, it’s incredibly fun hanging out with and watching thousands of other plungers drinking and eating on the boardwalk starting at 9am and then running in mass towards the freezing Atlantic. Believe me, I’m one of those “it’s too cold to swim” in the summer people BUT this event gets me up off that beach and into the water every year.

Please let me know if you are interested in starting a team. Worst case scenario my family and I will be there and you can come out and show your support. Heck if my 57 year old father and 72 year old grandmother can do it I KNOW any 908 member can too.

Thanks,

Courtney – [email protected]

ONE WEEK! – There is only one week left in the nutrition challenge.  I’m happy to say that most everyone who started is still doing the challenge.  It’s great to see so much activity on the comments sections.  We’ll be performing the benchmark workout at the end of next week.  We’ll also be weighing in between July 28 & Aug 1.  I’m very excited to see some great weight loss numbers and performance improvements.

  1. Thanks for posting Tim. I hope some of you are willing to take the plunge with me. It’s ridiculously fun and for such an amazing cause. Email me with questions or if you are interested. Thanks again!

    1. With weather like this, today is probably an excellent day to ask people to think about jumping into a freezing ocean! I’d be interested! Not sure what my schedule is going to look like in February though…

      1. Well it only costs $25 to register. Or you can wait until after the holidays to decide. Just note you must raise $100 to actually plunge. But you do get a nice quality hoodie in return. Hopefully you can do it!

2 weeks of no CF908…. hoping I kept my weight the same during 2 weeks of vacation (my goal) and wondering if I can improve on my performance on sheer muscle memory….(haha).

  6. Hi everyone- SO glad to be a part of CF908- and thanks for the intro Tim! Hope I get a chance to meet you all and looking forward to wodding (and sweating) with everyone!

  7. I will do the plunge, too! I have a couple of friends from Philadelphia who have always wanted to do one–maybe they can be honorary members of the CF908 team??

    1. Absolutely! My family doing it are going to become honorary members as well. The more the merrier.
