Olympic Weightlifting Seminar – How many people would definitely be interested in doing a one day workshop at the gym?It would be on a Sunday, probably sometime in December/January.  The cost would be around $180 per person.  Wilkes Weightlifting would be hosting the seminar.  We need a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 24, so space is limited.  Please post your thoughts to the comments section.  So far we have – Tim C., Erin C., Jim R., Ronald A. Kevin T., Brian S., Claudia V., Ant N.

CrossFit 908 2yr Birthday Party – Saturday, October 15 @ 8pm.  If you are planning on attending and bringing something, please post to the comments section.  Food is probably the thing we need most.  Booze is also encouraged if food is too much of a hassle.  There will be a plethora of alcohol, but if you want something really unique feel free to bring it.

  1. Thank God I have a meeting tomorrow.

Anywho, I’m a +1. I made excellent crab balls tonight. They turned into crab pancakes…but, I think I’ll bring those instead of booze.

  2. +1 for me. I made kabocha squash soup & pomelo salad today. I’m liking this cooking thing so far…we’ll see how I feel in another week. Haha

  3. +1. Easy this week…been about 80-85% grain-free for over a year thanks to Tim…but, dreading the no sugar next week.

Will bring some kind of appy. Thinking of bringing primal meatballs in sauce with my secret ingredient that keeps them moist. (?)

  4. +1 for yesterday…and I am cutting the sugars right away and coffee with no splenda is DISGUSTING! Especially b/c I used to put in 3 🙂

    1. A nice transition into coffee with no sugar is the following.

1.) Go to Starbucks – I don’t care if you hate Starbucks Coffee.
      2.) Order an Americano
3.) Ask for the heavy cream at the bar. When they tell you it is already out, kindly tell them that you want heavy cream and not that half&half BS.
4.) Add about 1 tbsp of Heavy Cream along with cinnamon and or nutmeg

It won’t be sweet, but it should be smooth and the cinnamon is a nice touch.

    2. Nicole–About 8 years ago, I couldn’t imagine not having a light and sweet coffee, but I took the sugar out when I tried the South Beach Diet. If you give a good couple of weeks, you not only won’t miss the sugar, you will start hating sweetened coffee! Since Monday, I’ve been trying to drink it black. Now, that is gross! But I’m hoping the same thing happens after a couple of weeks!

      1. Yeah, once upon a time, I worked at SBUX…you had to be able to describe all of the coffee varieties to customers, so they gave you a Coffee Passport in which to write down the various characteristics of each one. In doing so, you had to drink all of the coffees without anything–totally black. I’ve always had my coffee that way, but drinking SBUX black was another story. 😛
I can’t drink my coffee with anything *in* it! 😀

  5. I’m going to whip up some kind of creation with probably chicken for Saturday night…watch out, Dottie’s gonna be cookin’!! LOL!!
I would also be interested in the weight-lifting seminar…since I work every other Sunday, I’d just have to see which Sunday it will be 🙂
    xoxo, Dots

  6. +1

another question, been reading more about the coconut products.

I tried the milk for a mushroom sauce and the oil to cook up some meat with, does the job. I tried the milk in coffee too, gets a little clump…not sure its a fix…so going to try the heavy cream and cinnamon.

Is there anything to look out for in the coconut biased products or are they pretty much good to go?

    Thanks for yesterdays snack tips.

    Erik

    1. Just look for the ones with the least amount of added stuff in them…because we’re in the US, most of them have a teensy bit of guar gum in them (to act as a stabilizer) and water, but don’t get the ones with all that other shit you can’t pronounce. 😉 Go full fat (none of the “lite” crap), and for the ones in cans–the cartons of coconut milk, almond milk, etc. have the longest list of “ingredients” I’ve ever seen.

      Just my 2 cents…HTH. 🙂

    2. I use coconut milk in my coffee, depending on the can (whether it’s already separated or not) it may or may not separate out a bit. I found the brand I’ve been using the most these days (La Cena, it’s a cheap Thai brand with just coconut and sodium metabisulfite, which doesn’t bother me) tends to mix in well (and did I mention it’s cheap!). If that doesn’t do it for you, I know some people make a coconut ‘creamer’ like this: http://followingmynose.blogspot.com/2010/10/primal-non-dairy-coffee-creamer.html

Some people get worked up about BPA in cans, and there are brands (I think Native Forest is one) that make BPA-free, though how much better it really is is debatable. I tend to think the awesomeness of coconut milk is worth a potential low exposure to BPA!

  7. 10/10= +1
    10/11= +1

that’s a good suggestion for the coffee, my cup was a little brutal this morning with no sugar. womp. feelin good!

  8. btw Asian supermarkets have coconut milk in cans for cheap. Usually about $1.29 or so. I can check the ingredients this weekend & help anyone who needs me to get them some. I shop in Queens cuz they have great prices. 🙂
