02/13/12 – Why You Should Register For The Open

Hey 908ers,

You should register for the 2012 CrossFit Games Open.  Why, you ask?  Well, for the same reason that you sign up for a 5k, triathlon, marathon, tough mudder, spartan race, etc.  It’s about going a little out of your comfort zone to try something new.  It’s about being a part of this CrossFit community that you believe in.  It’s about trying your best and seeing where your best gets you, and then bettering that over the next year.  I know plenty of the people in the gym who have run marathons.  I don’t know anyone who has won a marathon.  Get my point?  Just because you are not going to win does not mean you should not sign up. It’s $20 for 5 weeks of fun workouts.  Register now for the CrossFit Open! Make sure you list CrossFit 908 as your affiliate.  There are already 28 athletes signed up through CrossFit 908!  This is going to be a blast.  Everyone should plan on completing the Open workouts Wednesday nights, starting Feb 21, @ the 6:00 and 6:45pm classes.  The time slots will not be limited to just competitors.  Anyone can come to those workouts, however competitors should plan to come workout and help judge during those time slots.  We’ll most likely be running 2-3 heats each Wednesday night for competitors, to ensure proper judging.  We’ll try to stick to the time slots as best as possible, but plan on hanging at the gym for a couple hours.  Make up workouts will be done on Saturdays @ 11am, if you can’t make it Wednesday or if you just want to give it another shot.

    1. That was a higher box!! I think you’re right though, maybe the 2inches wasn’t enough of an upgrade! I can’t keep up with my own improvement!

Tim, you need more pictures of Avon, the official Crossfit908 mascot!

  3. Hey guys,

For all of you that were asking, here’s the “PR” cookie recipe–it’s from The Foodie and the Family and has also been re-posted on fastpaleo.com. 🙂

    Dark Chocolate Cranberry Pecan Cookies

    Makes 2 dozen

    Ingredients

    2 cups almond meal
    1/4 cup coconut flour
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
    1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
    1/2 cup chopped pecans

    1/4 cup coconut oil
    1/4 cup raw honey
    2 eggs
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 cup unsulfured cranberries
    2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped

    Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, stir together almond meal, coconut flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and coconut.
In a small bowl, melt coconut oil and honey. Pour into the dry ingredients along with 2 eggs and vanilla. Stir until combined. Stir in cranberries and chopped dark chocolate.
