There are lots of reasons why you may not be able to get into a full depth squat safely…

πŸ”΄ Painful knees
πŸ”΄ Lack of motor control
πŸ”΄ OR tight ankles

πŸ‘‰Here is a quick tip to β€œgive” you more ankle flexibility to keep you in a more upright squat and likely give you more range of motion. ⁠

❀️ Practice this unloaded first to ensure you can maintain balance and proper body position as you move throughout the squat.

Workout #3 in the 2023 Barbells and Beers co-ed pa Workout #3 in the 2023 Barbells and Beers co-ed partner competition hosted at 908 Athletics in Berkeley Heights, NJ is a chipper that might leave you feeling a little bit less than.

"Planet of the Scrapes," is a heavy barbell mixed in with some gymnastics, the best of both worlds.  Partners will alternate who works and who rests and chip away at 50 Deadlifts, 50 Toes to Bar, 40 Deadlifts, 30 Chest to Bar Pull Ups, 30 Deadlifts, and 10 Bar Muscle Ups.  Partners will need to have attributes in both weightlifting and gymnastics to get this one done under the time cap.  We look forward to watching this one go down as the last event of the day.  Stay tuned for the floater workout!

When the pandemic started, I was in the best shape of my life.Β  When the world shut down, so did my mental health and my physicalΒ health suffered as a result.Β  I gained 20 pounds in the past 3 years and knew that I had to do something to get myself back in gear.Β  My knee pain from degenerative arthritis had escalated to the point where I was taking arthritis medication daily on top of cortisone and gel injections and yet I still limped around.Β  This was not nearly the quality of life that I wanted for myself and my family.

π•Žπ•™π•’π•₯ π•ͺ𝕠𝕦 π•π•–π•’π•£π•Ÿπ•–π•• π•—π•£π• π•ž π•₯𝕙𝕖 π•”π•™π•’π•π•π•–π•Ÿπ•˜π•–: 
This was the first challenge where I was not 100% paleo which meant that I avoided binging on cravings.Β  I put protein first and made sure that I was in a calorie deficit.Β  Hitting water and veggie goals also helped my body feel better.

ℍ𝕠𝕨 𝕒𝕣𝕖 π•ͺ𝕠𝕦 π•—π•–π•–π•π•šπ•Ÿπ•˜ 𝕒𝕗π•₯𝕖𝕣 𝟞-π•¨π•–π•–π•œπ•€: 
I can't get over how much better I feel after 6 weeks.Β  It's great to have lost weight and have my clothes fit again, but theΒ difference in the amount of pain I feel is unreal.Β  I had read an article that said for every pound you lose, it takes 4 pounds of stress off your knees.Β  I can attest that taking off the extra pounds has done nothing but help my chronic pain.Β  I am no longer taking daily oral medication and my overall mood has improvedΒ since I am not in constant discomfort.

The challenge is what you make it.Β  Some people use it to make healthier choices and createΒ better habits.Β  I used it to get myself back in gear and take control of my health in ways that I can.Β  I can't do anything to reverse my crumbling bones in my knees, but I can make choices that prolong the need for knee replacements.

After three challenging workouts in the Open, all four of them placed in the top 10% in the world as individuals.  This means they will be advancing on to the next stage of the CrossFIt Games qualifying process.  Congrats you four!

Workout #2 for the 2023 Barbells and Beers co-ed p Workout #2 for the 2023 Barbells and Beers co-ed partner competition held at 908 Athletics on Saturday, 05/20 is all about chemistry!  Athletes will need to stay synchronized on every repetition in order to finish this workout.  It is 4 Rounds of 16 synchronized Dumbbell Thrusters and 12 Burpee Box Jumps.  Both movements are challenging and are sure to get your hearts pumping.  Athletes will need to stay focused in order to stay in sync.  The time cap is not too generous, so teams will not only need to move together, they will need to move fast as well.
