This past Saturday many of our very own 908ers including myself competed int he Main Street Pride Event @ CrossFit Freehold. Juan G., PJ, Katie C., Stina, Bridget, Allen, Ron, Jim R., Bart Z., and Joe P. were among the competitors. It was a long, cold, and at many points, frustrating day. However, I couldn’t be more proud of what I witnessed. I saw a group of individuals, specifically 908ers, hold themselves to a standard higher than what the judges deemed suitable for many of the movements. CF 908 showed up, put on a range of motion clinic, and did an amazing job. I think what is frustrating for many of the athletes that competed Saturday, and not just 908ers, is that many people will do whatever they are allowed to get away with. That can all be fixed with stricter, more consistent judging, but what is scary is thinking about what will be accepted as “proper” range of motion at affiliates during the Open. There are many fantastic affiliates out there that will certainly uphold good ROM, but I fear there are just as many that won’t based on the grotesque form demonstrated this past Saturday. Jim R. put it best by saying that if we all hold ourselves to higher standards as athletes, we wouldn’t have to worry about this nonsense. A big congratulations to our 908 family of competitors, and a special shout out to Juan G. for finishing 2nd in the Men’s Scaled division.
